A 24-year old student at the Missouri Valley title game had a chance to win $50,000 before the tip. All he had to do was hit a layup, a free throw, a three and a half-court shot in 24 seconds.
He hit the layup and the free throw … and then went straight to half-court, where he promptly buried his first shot.
No three-pointer, no money.
“There was a miscommunication and I was given some instructions that didn’t match the instructions the announcer said,” Alex Permann told the Dagger. “I was so excited to be out there that I didn’t pay attention to what he said. I had in my mind what I was going to do before I went out there.”
The good news? His consolation prize isn’t bad. He gets four tickets to the Arch Madness for life and four VIP passes and a three-day hotel stay at next year’s event.
