The last six players to make the decision to play their college basketball at UCLA have been a big deal.

They’ve all been at least four-star recruits. Two of them -- Shabazz Muhammad and Kyle Anderson -- were consensus top three players in the Class of 2012.

Which is what makes Noah Allen’s Tuesday commitment to the Bruins somewhat of a surprise.

“UCLA taking Noah Allen was a bit of a surprise, but I do think he is a guy -- because of his motor and athleticism -- who can maybe help them down the road,” Scout.com analyst Evan Daniels told Sporting News on Tuesday. “I don’t expect an immediate impact, but he is a four-year guy who could help them in the future.”

Allen is a 6-foot-6 wing from California and a three-star recruit. He was previously committed to Harvard and was flirting with Northwestern and Washington State before UCLA got involved.

He becomes the third wing player in UCLA’s 2013 recruiting class.
