Northwestern has made another big addition to their 2012 recruiting class.
Aaron Liberman is a 6-foot-10, 215 pound center that averaged 17.4 points, 12.3 rebounds and 8.7 blocked shots per game as a senior for Valley Torah High School in Southern California.
But instead of going straight to college in the states, Liberman spent last year studying abroad in Israel. Liberman is Jewish and plays with a yarmulke.
“We are thrilled to officially announce the addition of Aaron Liberman to our 2012-13 recruiting class,” Carmody said. “Aaron had a tremendous opportunity to spend a year abroad studying and playing in Israel. He has made excellent strides to develop his body and to hone his skills on the court. He will be a great addition to our revamped frontcourt.”
Liberman will be a walk-on, but he’s good enough, according to Jeff Goodman of CBSSports.com, to have earned a scholarship at the mid-major level.
Liberman joins a recruiting class that includes a number of big bodies. The headliner is probably Louisville transfer Jared Swopshire, who started for the Cardinals before suffering a devastating groin injury a couple of years ago. Bill Carmody also adds a pair seven-footers in Chier Ajou and Alex Olah, as well as TCU transfer Nikola Cerina.
