Mark Gottfried added some head coaching experience to the NC State program on Thursday, as it was announced that Larry Farmer would be the director of player development.

Farmer has 12 season of head coaching experience, which includes a stint at his alma mater (UCLA; 1981-84) and most recently he was the head coach at Loyola-Chicago from 1998-2004.

According to the school release, Farmer’s duties will include “assisting with the evaluation of video, development of practice and game schedules, game planning and acting as the academic and community liaison.”

Farmer was an assistant at Western Michigan in the three seasons prior to accepting his new role at NC State.

“Larry is a proven winner and will add a great deal to our program,” coach Gottfried said in the release. “His vast life experiences on and off the court will develop our student-athletes into well-rounded individuals.

“I’m looking forward to him working with our players and staff in a variety of roles.”

Both Gottfried and director of basketball operations Jeff Dunlap have a connection to UCLA, with Gottfried being an assistant on the 1995 national championship team and Dunlap playing for Farmer at the school.

Dunlap was also an assistant of Farmer’s at Loyola-Chicago.
