Live in AC Day 1 Recap: Rysheed Jordan shines, Team Takeover falls

Live in AC

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J.--On the first day of the Live in AC Tournament in Atlantic City, N.J., some players stood out, some teams pulled an upset, and others continued the strong spring they’ve had so far. Check out the recap from NBCSports.com below:

Standout Player of the Day: Rysheed Jordan, Philly Pride

Jordan was matched up with another Philadelphia talent, Rondae Jefferson of Team Final, for much of the game Wednesday night and Jordon, who played like he had something to prove, dropped 22 points.

He outplayed Jefferson for much of the night, before more efficient with the basketball, showing an ability to hit from three-point range, and facilitating the offense on the way to a win.

Upset of the Day: Threat 220 over Team Takeover DC, 70-56

For a team as loaded with talent as Takeover, with Indiana commit Stan Robinson, high-major forward BeeJay Anya, guards Josh Hart and Jairus Lyles, etc., this first-round upset at the hands of Threat 220 was a surprise.

Credit Threat 220 for jumping on Takeover early, leading at halftime and, despite a strong run by Takeover as they implemented a full-court press in the second half, holding their ground for the 70-56 win.

Other standouts:

Tyler Ennis, CIA Bounce

Ennis runs the point for St. Benedict’s (N.J.) during the high school season and has bulked up since I last saw him in the fall. He runs the point with poise and excels when he can get out on the run in transition, but is also effective in the half-court with his dribble penetration, looking to kick it out or find a player around the rim.

Xavier Rathan-Mayes, CIA Bounce

Rathan-Mayes was Ennis’ complement Wednesday night in the absence of Andrew Wiggins, a large guard who can shoot and also use his body to make plays. The most unique part of his game is his willingness to back players down from the perimeter and create space to get a shot off.

Isaiah Briscoe, New Jersey Playaz

Briscoe, only a rising sophomore, had a solid Peach Jam playing for the 17U team and continued that at Live in AC. He will keep growing and already has a solid body frame for a high-major two guard. Off the dribble he is effective.

Josh Hart, Team Takeover

Hart has a good, muscular frame and used it to his advantage Wednesday night when working to get to the basket. He has a long list of offers from schools that range from the Big East to the ACC to the Big 12 and could fit as a shooting guard at any one of those.

Notable Players Not in Attendance:

Andrew Wiggins, CIA Bounce
