Getting giddy to watch Clarke, Dunham light it up for Butler

Butler missed the 2012 NCAA tournament, but the Bulldogs are certain to shoot their way into the 2013 tourney and probably the Top 25. That’s what happens when Rotnei Clarke and Kellen Dunham can suit up.

We’re no strangers to the Butler bandwagon. Clarke’s addition – he elected to transfer in Jan. 2011 – only amplified that. The idea of watching two of the nation’s elite shooters in Butler’s offense? That’s a hoops lover’s dream.

Consider this report from Jeff Goodman regarding the Bulldogs’ new shooting stars. Their accuracy is simply astounding.

A workout saw Dunham and Clarke take almost 400 shots between the pair. They hit 81 percent. Clarke – apparently because all he does is shoot – drained 400 of 446 shots later that night.

Those are video game numbers. Maybe better.

Having sharpshooters like that is a boon for any team, let alone a group such as the Bulldogs, who made just 28 percent of their 3-pointers during the 2011-12 season. During their Final Four seasons, the Bulldogs shot at least 34 percent from deep.

Clarke, a 6-1 guard, made 44 percent of his 3s during his last season at Arkansas. He says Dunham, a 6-5 freshman who’s been called an “Alford-esque” shooter, is even better. Uh, what? You just hit 400 3s!

Yeah, we’ll go for that ride.
