Tom Moore, the two-time NEC Coach of the Year at Quinnipiac, has signed a contract extension through the 2016-17 season, the school announced Wednesday.

“Tom and his staff continue to elevate Quinnipiac Men’s Basketball with post-season appearances, academic success and community service,” athletic director Jack McDonald said in a statement. “I and the entire Quinnipiac community are very pleased and grateful for their continued growth and success.”

In five seasons with the school, Moore has made an NIT appearance, coming in 2009-10, and won more than 21 games twice.

“The support that I have received from our administration has been invaluable in helping us elevate our program,” Moore said. “I’d like to thank President John Lahey, our Athletic Director Jack McDonald, and our entire Athletic Department administration for their continued commitment to men’s basketball…I am excited and energized about continuing our success in the future, both on the court and in the classroom.”

The Bobcats finished 18-14 in 2011-12, including 10-8 in conference games. Heading into the 2012-13 season, they will be losing graduated senior James Johnson, who was the team’s leading scorer this past year.

Moore will welcome a four-man recruiting class to Quinnipiac from the Class of 2012, led by guard James Ford.
