Do we think that Kentucky’s weak home non-con schedule has anything to do with Coach Cal trying to protect his lengthy winning streak? I don’t, but others do

- Speaking of Coach Cal, now that the Dominican Republic is finished playing international competition this summer, the #BBN leader is back on the recruiting trail. If you’re a D-I coach, your knees should probably be quaking

- A few months ago, Larry Brown made a big splash at SMU by reeling in talented-yet-troubled Arizona transfer Josiah Turner. But the freshman guard announced yesterday that he would be turning pro instead of attending SMU. According to Turner, he struggled with drugs and alcohol during his freshman season
- I bet you didn’t know that the College of Charleston is sending a player to the Olympics. I didn’t know either, but that’s why I occasionally read Matt Norlander’s stuff
- Purdue-transfer Kelsey Barlow has decided to attend Horizon League bottom-dweller Illinois-Chicago
- Brian Favat from BC Interruption did a great job ranking the ACC conference schedules
- Iowa head coach Fran McCaffery signed a new seven-year deal with the school. If that’s not a vote of confidence, I don’t know what is
- Holy Cross has extended the contract of head coach Milan Brown until the 2015-2016 seaon
- UNC and UAB have agreed to a three-year series that will see the Blazers head to Chapel Hill twice and the Tar Heels in Birmingham once. Not many top-tier coaches will agree to play mid-majors on the road, but “Daggum” Roy isn’t afraid, and he’ll probably gain some fans in the process
- Missouri’s Laurence Bowers had to sit out all of last season due to an ACL injury. But that didn’t stop the versatile high-flyer from analyzing and profiling the Tiger’s incoming transfers (BTW, I would kill to watch a dunk-off in practice between Bowers and Pepperdine-transfer Keion Bell)
- This isn’t anything new, but Creighton’s Doug McDermott has a chance to go down as the best player in the history of the Missouri Valley Conference
- Kenny Heitz, a three-time National Champion at UCLA, lost his long battle with cancer yesterday. He was 65 years-old
- Up until a freak injury took away my D-I scholarship, I was locked in on one school. Why? Because the coach initiated communication with a hand-written note. Northwestern assistant Fred Hill is taking the same route. I’m positive he can reel in more talented recruits than myself
- Stebe Lavin is yet to determine his replacement for Mike Dunlap, but Jeff Eisenberg explains with De La Salle HS head coach Frank Allocco would be a great hire
