Jake O’Brien to transfer out of Boston University

Jake O’Brien had a promising start to his career as a Boston Terrier.

As a freshman, the 6-foot-8 forward averaged 12.5 points, following that up with sophomore campaign that saw him post 13.8 points and 6.4 boards. But a broken bone in his foot originally diagnosed as a sprained ankle eventually led the Massachusetts to miss the second half of his junior season and all of the 2011-2012 season while recovering from a pair of surgeries.

And now, the senior will be finishing his collegiate career elsewhere.

Jeff Goodman of CBSSports.com tweeted that O’Brien will be leaving BU because the program will be ineligible for the America East tournament. Since O’Brien redshirted last season and has already spent four years in college, he should be eligible immediately wherever he lands.

O’Brien will be a nice pickup for someone. He’s a veteran that has proven the ability to score, is 6-foot-8 and has three-point range.
