Tony Skinn helps another team make hoops breakthrough

Tony Skinn spent the spring of 2006 helping George Mason make history with its Final Four run. He spent the summer of 2012 helping the Nigerian men’s basketball reach the Olympics for the first time.

That’s an impressive double.

Skinn scored eight points, dished five assists and grabbed four rebounds as the Nigerians beat the Dominican Republic (coached by John Calipari) on Sunday, 88-73, for the final spot in the field.

That’s a nice bit of history for Skinn, who was born in Lagos and played alongside more established players like Ike Diogu and Al Farouq Aminu. But, just as Skinn made key plays during the Patriots’ run as their point guard, he did the same during Nigeria’s tournament, helping sink Lithuania with a key 3-pointer.

So enjoy it now. Because Skinn’s team will be in the same group as Team USA. Can’t imagine that matchup’s gonna go well.
