‘Ironhead’ Heyward’s son tears his ACL

Corey Heyward, the son of former NFL player “Ironhead” Heyward, will likely miss the 2012-2013 season after tearing his ACL playing pickup basketball on Thursday.

The Georgia Tech recruit is scheduled to have surgery in the next couple of weeks to repair an injury that head coach Brian Gregory defined as “a temporary setback“.

Heyward is a graduate of Peachtree Ridge High School in Georgia that spent last season at Hargrave Military Academy. Heyward’s a three-star recruit, a 6-foot-0, 205 lb point guard that also considered Appalachian State and Georgia Southern.

Heyward originally signed with Western Carolina out of high school, but decided to go the prep route to try and get bigger suitors. That worked. It’s too bad he’ll have to wait a year before he is able to play.
