In only a couple days of time, reports indicated that Creighton landed four successive verbal commitments from high school basketball prospects, setting the Bluejays up quite well for the future. Coach Greg McDermott and his staff were able to snag verbals from two seniors and two juniors last week.

In the 2013 class, 6-9 power forward Toby Hegner will trek to Creighton from Wisconsin, while guard Darian Harris committed from Arkansas. Meanwhile, Kansas City Run GMC, a top 16U grassroots team, is sending two teammates to Omaha in point guard Nick Norton and forward Ezra Talbert.

The geographic diversity of the class indicates that this is a highly-targeted group. With reports that Hegner and Harris both attended camp at Creighton, the ability of the staff to sell the program during the time of the camp is also impressive. A strong Missouri Valley power lately, there’s no question that McDermott and company have the program headed in the right direction.

While it’s two seasons away, Norton and Talbert both look to be solid down the line for the Bluejays, and are certainly part of a pipeline worth investing in for the staff. Formerly an adidas sponsored team, Kansas City Run GMC is now in the Under Armour stable and features more than a handful of D-1 bound players. The talent runs deep in that program, from both Kansas and Missouri in the greater Kansas City metro area, and Creighton will undoubtedly look at other options within that program while they follow Talbert and Norton’s progression.
