Austin Carroll, the former Rutgers guard who announced he would transfer earlier this month, has committed to American University, Jeff Borzello of CBSSports.com is reporting.
Carroll played in just 10 games this past season for the Scarlet Knights and was granted a medical redshirt after suffering lingering effects of a knee surgery he underwent last year.
In those 10 games, Carroll averaged 2.8 points in nearly 11 minutes per game.
He is a native of Bedford, Mass. and brings good size to American, standing 6-4, 205 pounds.
The Scarlet Knights finished 14-18 overall this past season, including 6-12 in the Big East. Head coach Mike Rice will lead a team in 2012-13 that returns leading scorers Eli Carter and Myles Mack.
Carroll will have to sit out a season in accordance with NCAA transfer rules, but will then join an American team that finished 20-12, including 10-4 in the Patriot League.
He will have three years of eligibility remaining.
