As first reported by Matthew Schwade of FlyerHoops.net, former Dayton forward Ralph Hill has decided to transfer to Oakland University.

Hill played in 25 games for the Flyers last season but averaged just 7.5 minutes per game, accounting for 1.4 points and 1.9 rebounds per contest.

“I really love UD, but I’ve played basketball all my life and finding the best role and fit for my future is what has brought me to this decision,” Hill said in the statement to announce his decision to leave Dayton on May 1.

“This is one of the toughest choices I’ve ever had to make. I know I will always follow the guys (I’ve been teammates with). They are my brothers. But sometimes you have to do what you think is best for you.”

Hill, who averaged 22.6 points per game as a high school senior, will have to sit out the 2012-13 season per NCAA transfer rules but there should be plenty of playing time available to him in 2013-14 at Oakland.

Head coach Greg Kampe loses leading scorer Reggie Hamilton this season (along with Laval Lucas-Perry), and third-leading scorer Drew Valentine (11.4 ppg) will be a senior this season.

Two key players who will most likely be around when Hill becomes eligible to play are guard Travis Bader and 6-10 center Corey Petros.

Bader averaged 15.9 points as a sophomore last season and figures to be Oakland’s primary scoring option in 2012-13, and Petros (8.7 ppg, 7.2 rpg) was named to the Summit League’s All-Newcomer team.
