Once Tim Jankovich decided to leave his head coaching position at Illinois State to take the associate head coach job at SMU point guard Nic Moore knew that he wanted to leave.

“As soon as Coach Jankovich left I made up my mind and knew I wanted to go play for a BCS program,” Moore said in a May statement from ISU announcing his decision to transfer. “It didn’t matter who was going to be the head coach. My decision had already been made.”

And according to Jeff Goodman of CBSSports.com Moore has decided to transfer to SMU, moving the number of transfers headed to Dallas up to three.

Moore was named to the Missouri Valley’s All-Freshman team last season, averaging 10.0 points and 3.9 assists per game for an Illinois State team that reached the MVC tournament title game.

The 5-9 point guard from Winona Lake, Indiana finished the season hot, scoring at least 20 points in each of Illinois State’s final three games.

Moore helped lead Illinois State to a 96-93 win at Ole Miss in the first round of the Postseason NIT with 24 points and ten assists, following that up with a career-high 25 points in their 92-88 loss at eventual champion Stanford.

Moore joins Crandall Head (Illinois) and Josiah Turner (Arizona) as transfers headed to SMU with an eye towards the school entering the Big East in 2013.

From a talent standpoint this is definitely a good starting point for Larry Brown and his staff, and the next step is to find some big men capable of competing at level.
