New Mexico promotes Drew Adams to assistant coach

Coming off a 28-7 season and a trip to the NCAA tournament, New Mexico has hired from within to fill its vacancy on the bench.

Drew Adams, previously the Lobos’ director of basketball operations, was promoted Monday to become New Mexico’s new assistant coach, replacing Ryan Miller, who left for Missouri last month.

To fill Adams’ spot as director of basketball operations, New Mexico promoted video administrator Craig Snow.

“Both Drew and Craig have had very good years, and they both work hard and have a positive impact with the program,” said head coach Steve Alford in a statement. “Both are very deserving of being promoted. In their new roles I look forward to their continued hard work.”

Before coming to New Mexico, Adams was the director of basketball operations for one season under Tom Crean at Indiana.

The Lobos advanced to the Round of 32 last season, losing to eventual Final Four participant Louisville.

They will be losing a major piece in forward Drew Gordon, who was the team’s leading scorer and rebounder this past season.

Alford has a four-man recruiting class joining from 2012, led by seven-foot center Obij Aget.
