Former UTEP shooting guard Mike Perez will transfer to Nevada for his final two seasons of college basketball, the Tucson, Arizona native tweeted on Sunday night.
Perez, who visited Reno after visiting Penn State last week, was down to Nevada, Penn State and Purdue. He did not take a visit to Purdue.
Perez didn’t get much playing time on a senior-laden team in 2010-11 but he performed very well in December and January last season, ultimately averaging 11.0 points and 2.6 rebounds per game for the Miners.
He scored a career-high 25 points in UTEP’s 61-48 win over Clemson in the first round of the Diamond Head Classic, an event the Miners finished third in and Perez earned all-tournament team honors.
Perez will have to sit out the 2012-13 season per NCAA transfer rules, but with leading scorers Deonte Burton and Malik Story returning the Wolf Pack will be very good on the perimeter next season.
