The US Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs is the venue this week for three days of try-outs for several top incoming high school seniors, as well as many incoming college freshmen, with the ultimate goal of making the U18 USA Basketball squad that is set to play in the 2012 FIBA Americas 18U Championship in Sao Sebastiao do Paraiso, Brazil.
One current collegian is on the try-out roster, power forward Jarnell Stokes. He played over half the season at Tennessee after enrolling following a denial of his eligibility to play in the high school ranks in Memphis.
There are 23 players on the try-out roster, which will be narrowed to the final list of 12 after the try-outs. After the final roster is determined, the team will practice and travel to Brazil for the tournament.
