Cal State Fullerton coach Bob Burton reportedly stepping down

Bob Burton, Cal State-Fullerton’s head basketball coach for the past decade, is stepping down, according to Jeff Goodman of CBSSports.com.

His replacement on an interim basis will likely be associate head coach Andy Newman.

In ten seasons with the Titans, Burton amassed a record of 155-122, including guiding the school to one of just two NCAA tournament appearances in the institution’s history, coming in 2008.

He is the winningest coach in the school’s history and oversaw a conference title in 2008, which led to the school’s NCAA tournament berth that same year.

Burton came to Cal State Fullerton after 21 seasons with West Valley College, where he had an overall record of 488-158.

The Titans have a three-man recruiting class coming in for the 2012-13 season, led by 6-4 post-graduate Jared Brandon. The other two signees, Marquis Horne and James Johnson, are both junior college transfers.

Cal State Fullerton finished last season with a 21-10 record, including 12-4 in the conference. They finished second in the league standings to Long Beach State.
