Craziest preseason projection yet -- Texas tops in 2013-14

Flash forward to the 2013-14 season. Texas will be the team to beat. Maryland and Providence will be top 10 teams. And Iowa might be the Big Ten’s best team.

At least, that’s according to the earliest projection I’ve ever seen of a season. For that, you can thank the guys over at Cracked Sidewalks.

A little work with value add numbers and roster projections allowed them to project what the top 50 teams in two seasons will look like. Well, might look like. It’s the insane version of the waaaaaay too early preseason top 25.

Anyway, they do take into account guys who’ll take off early for the NBA and project for improvement, etc. etc. The list features many of the usual suspects – Arizona, Kentucky, UCLA, UConn and UNC are all in the top 10 – but it’s interesting to see who else is included. Texas Tech? Whoa. Virginia Tech? OK. Rutgers? Sure.

Is it accurate? No way. But it is fun.
