Film debut of former Michigan State forward Delvon Roe opens at Cannes Film Festival

With his basketball career cut short by injury, former Michigan State forward Delvon Roe is reemerging, not on the hardwood, but on the silver screen, as his feature-film debut, “Love and Honor,” opens Thursday at the Cannes Film Market.

The romantic drama stars Liam Hemsworth (“The Hunger Games”) as a Vietnam-era soldier who secretly returns home to win back his girlfriend. Roe is cast in the role of Isaac.

The working title of the film was “AWOL,” which Roe was on location filming last summer. Lightning Entertainment recently obtained the international rights for the film.

“The film’s setting and poignant storyline is an outstanding vehicle for this gifted cast, a truly talented ensemble of young actors right on the cusp of stardom,” said Lightning Entertainment president Robert Beaumont in a statement.

Roe graduated from Michigan State this month with a degree in theatre, eight months after he announced his retirement, do to chronic degenerative knee pain.

He was a Top 20 recruit coming out of high school in the Class of 2008 and had his best season as a Spartan in 2010-11, when he averaged 6.1 points, five rebounds, and 1.2 blocks per game.
