NC State has added LSU transfer Ralston Turner

x610-15

Mark Gottfried as added yet another talented piece to the mix at NC State, as former LSU guard Ralston Turner officially decided to transfer into the Wolfpack program.

Turner started 59 games in two years with LSU, averaging 12.3 points as a freshman and 9.1 points as a sophomore.

“I felt like I knew coach (Mark) Gottfried and I was comfortable with him,” Turner told The News & Observer. “I saw where I could fit in. I want to come in and help the team any way that I can.”

When Turner received his release, he wasn’t set on transferring. With Trent Johnson leaving to take over the TCU program and former North Texas head coach Johnny Jones coming in, Turner wanted to weigh his options and determine whether or not it would be worth it to transfer. Evidently, he deemed the move worthwhile.

And who could blame him? LSU is a program that is struggling while the Wolfpack -- with a top ten team coming back this season, bolstered by a top five recruiting class -- are as good as they’ve been since ... Jim Valvano’s tenure?

Turner said it himself: “It wasn’t the coaching change that ran me off. I just had a change of heart about LSU.”
