Sterling Gibbs to Seton Hall now official

It is now official: Sterling Gibbs is headed to Seton Hall.

“We’re excited to add Sterling to our family,” Seton Hall head coach Kevin Willard said in a statement. “He’s the type of player that will contribute to our backcourt efforts over the next few years. He’s also a player that knows Seton Hall, its mission and culture well.  Sterling will be a nice fit.”

This news was originally reported back in April.

Gibbs, the younger brother of former Pitt guard Ashton, spent last season at Texas, but he didn’t see much playing time. With the abundance of young talent in the Longhorn program, the chances of those minutes increasing substantially was not all that high.

It appears likely that Gibbs, a New Jersey native, will pursue a hardship waiver in an attempt to get eligible to play immediately for the Pirates. There have been reports that a member of Gibbs’ family is sick, which played a role in his decision to transfer back home.
