Michigan State center Derrick Nix is a facing a fine and mandatory community service for a charge of impaired driving that stemmed from a traffic stop in April.
Nix’s fines total $853 and he will be required to perform 24 hours of community service. In addition, he will attend court-mandated substance abuse classes and a drunk driving awareness panel.
A marijuana possession charge was previously dropped.
Nix averaged 7.9 points and 3.7 rebounds this past season for a Michigan State team that finished 29-8, losing to Louisville in the Sweet 16.
He was originally suspended from the Michigan State team, following his arrest, but was reinstated by head coach Tom Izzo after a public apology.
Nix is not the only Spartan who has had trouble with the law recently.
Former guard Brandon Wood was arrested on assault and battery charges late last month, after an alleged altercation in Chicago.
