Bradley Hayes commits to Georgetown

After missing out on Nerlens Noel, Georgetown had an available scholarship and a spot in the front court to fill.

Enter Bradley Hayes.

A 6-foot-11, 230 lb senior from Jacksonville, Hayes spent the April live period playing with his AAU team in an attempt to secure a scholarship offer. And, according to a report from Adam Zagoria, he did just that.

“Yes,” he said by text. “I signed with Georgetown [Tuesday] night and I’m really excited about attending one of the best universities in the nation and they have a great basketball program.

“I really connected with Coach [John] Thompson [III] and the entire staff. My teammates made me feel that I was really a part of the Hoya family. And the real work starts now.”

Hayes visited the Big East school over the weekend and took a tour of the Verizon Center during the Rangers-Capitals series.

He chose Georgetown over offers from UConn and Texas A&M and interest from Florida and others.

Hayes has the potential to be a solid contributor down the road, but right now he’s not at a level where he will be able to contribute in the Big East. Part of the reason is that he is a year younger than most of his grade, which should make him an ideal candidate for a redshirt season.
