Illinois State assistant coach Rob Judson will be promoted and become the next head coach of the Redbirds, Jim Benson of The Pantagraph is reporting.
Judson has spent the last fives seasons serving under former coach Tom Jankovich, who left Illinois State to be the coach-in-waiting, behind Larry Brown at Southern Methodist.
The 54-year-old Judson was previously the head coach at Northern Illinois, amassing an overall record of 74-101 in six seasons between 2001 and 2007.
Prior to his time there, he was an assistant at NIU, Bradley, and Illinois, his alma mater. During his time as a coach, his teams have reached six NCAA tournaments and four NITs.
The Redbirds finished 21-14 last season, making their way to the second round of the NIT, before losing to Stanford.
They have two players signed from the Class of 2012: two-star guards Anthony Beane and Aaron Simpson.
