Former Iowa State forward Calvin Godfrey commits to LSU

JohnnyJones

Howard College forward Calvin Godfrey has committed to LSU, he confirmed via Twitter on Monday afternoon.

The 6-8, 230-pound Godfrey averaged 12.6 points and nearly seven rebounds in 31 games this past season.

Godfrey is a Minnesota native who was kicked off the Iowa State basketball team in May of 2011, after being arrested for marijuana possession. He had previously been suspended from ISU for a violation of team rules.

During his freshman year at Iowa State, he averaged 5.7 points and 5.4 rebounds.

Former LSU head coach Trent Johnson left to fill the coaching vacancy at TCU, and was replaced last month by North Texas coach Johnny Jones.

Godfrey is the second commitment from the Class of 2012 from Howard College, as he will come in alongside 6-6 small forward Shavon Coleman.

LSU now has a four-man recruiting class, once signees Malik Morgan and Shane Hammink are added to the mix.

The Tigers finished 18-15 last season and lost in the first round of the NIT to Oregon. They will be losing leading scorer and rebounder Justin Hamilton to the NBA draft, which creates a space in the middle.
