The final leg of Washington’s foreign trip will be a special one

Lorenzo Romar will take his program on its first overseas trip since 2007, and while Washington does return some experienced cogs the on-court experience should help the Huskies adjust to life without Darnell Gant, Terrence Ross and Tony Wroten.

Washington will visits France, Spain, Monaco and Senegal during their two weeks on the road, which should benefit redshirt freshman Andrew Andrews and junior college transfer Mark McLaughlin in addition to the returnees.

But the last leg of Washington’s trip may turn out to be the best part of the experience as it allows senior center Aziz N’Diaye the opportunity to play a game in his native country.

N’Diaye, a native of Senegal, will have the opportunity to introduce his Husky family to his biological family as well as run some basketball clinics as part of World Vision’s Area Development Program.

“You do home visits with kids when you are recruiting them and you meet parents and have an opportunity to see their world,” Romar said. “In this case, we not only get to see Aziz’s world, but his family and friends get to see the group he has been living with the last couple of years.”

The Huskies, who missed out on the NCAA tournament despite winning the Pac-12 regular season title in 2011-12, leave for Barcelona on August 25 and will return on September 9.
