The field for the Jimmy V Classic has been set

JimmyV

For just the second time in the history of the event, NC State will be a participant in the Jimmy V Classic, a double-header annually held at Madison Square Garden bearing the name of the former Wolfpack head coach.

Jim Valvano, who unfortunately passed away after an elongated battle with cancer back in 1993, led NC State to a national title in 1983, but it has been a full decade since NC State was invited to play in the Jimmy V Classic. That game resulted in a 69-60 loss to Gonzaga in 2002.

If I was a betting man, I would expect the Wolfpack to avoid a losing streak in the Jimmy V Classic; they’ll be matched up with UConn, a team that will be lacking any kind of inside presence to matchup with CJ Leslie and Ricardo Howell inside.

The other half of the double-header will be Texas taking on Georgetown. Of the four teams involved, NC State is the only team that con be considered a true power next season, as the return of Leslie made NC State the ACC favorite and a potential top five team.
