Richard Pitino making moves at FIU, scores commit in Diamante Lewis

RichardPitino

Richard Pitino is taking over as the head coach of a program that finished 8-21 in 2011-12, but he’s wasting no time making some noise on the recruiting trail.

Evan Daniels of Scout.com is reporting that Pitino has landed a commitment from Lake Weir (Fla.) guard Diamante Lewis, a 6-3 player from the Class of 2012.

Lewis averaged 28.4 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 6.1 assists per game this past season, according to MaxPreps, for a team that finished 13-12 on the season.

He was also garnering interest from Central Florida, before his commitment.

Lewis becomes the fourth player in Pitino’s class from 2012, joining Gio Guzman and Milton Doyle, along with junior college transfer Antoine Myers.

Pitino replaced head coach Isiah Thomas after Thomas finished 26-65 in three seasons.
