Oddsmakers aren’t on NC State, Creighton bandwagons yet

Indiana (7:1), Louisville (8:1) and Kentucky (10:1) are the three favorites to win the 2013 NCAA tournament, per odds from Sportsbook.com.

It’s the rest of the field that’s more interesting.

More power programs are right behind the top three (Kansas, Michigan State, Ohio State and Syracuse are all 15:1), while Duke, Missouri and North Carolina are all 20-1. (Wonder what The Big Lead thinks of those Blue Devils odds?)

UCLA with its sparkling new recruiting class? 25:1. Michigan with Trey Burke back in the fold? 30:1.

But what about N.C. State, the team we placed as a waaaay too early top 5? 50:1. (Oddsmakers aren’t believers yet, which must make Michael Rogner smile.)

Other ones that might be worth a small bet or two? UNLV (60:1), VCU (100:1), Butler (100:1) and Creighton (100:1). The Blue Jays, in fact, might be the best bet of all those teams. They have a player of the year candidate in Doug McDermott and only lose one starter from a 29-win team.

Now if only they learn to play defense…
