Kyle Anderson, the No. 3 player in our Consensus Recruiting Rankings for the Class of 2012, is a major reason that UCLA’s recruiting class is considered by many to be the best in the country.

But Anderson is currently dealing with a thumb injury that may require surgery, keeping him out as long as three months this summer. Anderson initially injured the thumb during practice leading into the New Jersey state title game and aggravated the injury during a practice for the McDonald’s All-American Game.

According to Adam Zagoria, Anderson has torn ligaments in the thumb that will require surgery. He’s going in for a second opinion.

“[Our doctor said] he has torn ligaments in his thumb and after reading the MRI and seeing the MRI he believes he needs surgery,” Anderson’s dad told Zagoria. “We respect his opinion and judgment but are still going to have a second opinion.”
