Two possible betting options for the 2013 Kentucky Derby: ‘Gorgui’ and ‘Siva’?

You never know what can happen in sports, but it is possible based on a post by C.L. Brown of the Louisville Courier-Journal that bettors could be able to wager on a pair of thoroughbreds with Louisville connections in 2013.

Louisville head coach Rick Pitino has two 2-year old horses that he described as “talented”, and their names are “Gorgui” and “Siva”.

Gorgui of course is named after center Gorgui Dieng and Pitino described the horse as a “big Bellamy Road”, the horse owned by the late George Steinbrenner.

Bellamy Road finished second in the 2005 Travers Stakes and seventh in the Kentucky Derby that year.

As for Siva, named after point guard Peyton Siva, Pitino described him as “faster Flatter colt”. Flatter’s racing career was cut short by injuries in 2004.

Could either one, or both, be talented enough to race in the first leg of the Triple Crown next May?

Who knows, but if so they’d offer up interesting options for those who like to take a chance on an intriguing name (who could ever forget Homeboykris?).
