Don Friday out at Saint Francis (PA); replaced by Rob Krimmel

According to Jeff Goodman of CBSSports.com Saint Francis (PA) athletic director Bob Krimmel has relieved head coach Don Friday of his duties.

The most interesting aspect of this decision may be the fact that Krimmel has named son Rob (previously the associate head coach) the 21st head coach in school history.

“I want to thank Don for his service to Saint Francis and especially to our men’s basketball program,” said Bob Krimmel. “He is passionate about the game and brought his energy to work every day. The Red Flash Family wishes him every success as he moves forward to new opportunities in his life.”

In four seasons in Loretto, Friday went 32-86 with a 6-23 mark in 2011-12 likely proving to be the last straw.

Before this season Friday led the Red Flash to consecutive NEC tournament appearances, which was an improvement for a program that finished dead last in the conference the four seasons prior.

This will be Rob Krimmel’s 13th season as a member of the Saint Francis (PA) coaching staff, having also played for the Red Flash and being a three-year starter.

During his senior season (1999-2000) Krimmel led the NEC in three-point percentage, knocking down 43.5% of his shots from beyond the arc.

Jon Taylor, who averaged 5.9 points per game in 2011-12, is the lone departing senior with forward Scott Eatherton and guard Anthony Ervin being two of the key returnees.
