Chanse Creekmur to walk-on at Iowa State, but not in basketball?

Chanse Creekmur’s career as a basketball player is over.

The 6-foot-5 sophomore averaged just 4.7 points and 2.3 rebounds in over 24 minutes this past season, which, combined with the poor record that the Sun Devils have had the past couple of seasons, was enough to convince Creekmur to transfer back home.

He will be enrolling at Iowa State next season, and while he (probably) won’t be playing basketball, it doesn’t mean that he will no longer be a collegiate athlete.

Creekmur is walking onto the Cyclone football team.

“I’ve been thinking about it for awhile now. I had my fun at basketball. I just could never get rid of the itch to play football again. I just said maybe it’s time to see what I can do,” Creekmur told the Times-Republican.

“It was a fun two years, but it was just time to change.”

This isn’t just a spur-of-the-moment decision, either. As a senior at Marshalltown High School, Creekmur set Class 4A records in completions, yardage and touchdowns while leading his team on an undefeated run to the state title game before finally losing.

And hey, even if Creekmur is playing football, we all know how much ISU basketball coach Fred Hoiberg likes transfers.
