UConn isn’t the only men’s hoops team dealing with academic issues and postseason bans. Toledo’s in the same spot.

The Rockets will be banned from 2013 postseason– including the NCAA tournament – because of academic problems. The NCAA denied the school’s appeal on Wednesday. Toledo had argued that recent improvements were worthy of reconsideration, but the NCAA disagreed.

“I fully support the NCAA and its efforts to improve academic integrity, but I don’t believe coaches and student-athletes who are doing the right thing should be penalized like this,” coach Tod Kowalczyk said.

Toledo’s two-year scores from 2009-11 fell short of the required APR marks and also cost the school three regular-season games, practice time and three scholarships.

It’s a tough break for Kowalczyk’s squad, which returns every player from last year’s 19-17 team that lost to Ohio in the MAC tournament.

The school hasn’t been to the NCAA tourney since 1980.
