Report: Connecticut releases Michael Bradley from his scholarship

The count for players who have decided to leave Connecticut this season is now up to four.

According to Brendan F. Quinn of Basketball Times and Nooga.com, redshirt freshman Michael Bradley’s request to be released from his scholarship has been granted.

Bradley sat out the entire 2010-11 campaign and then had his 2011-12 campaign derailed by a fractured ankle suffered in October. In two seasons in Storrs the Chattanooga, Tennessee native didn’t play a single minute for the Huskies.

Bradley most famously made news for the scholarship situation involving he and freshman Andre Drummond, who is leaving school after one season to go pro.

According to a source of Quinn’s, Bradley has been contacted by “strong mid-major programs” that expect him to have an immediate impact provided he’s 100%.

The NCAA did rule that rising seniors could leave Connecticut without penalty, so it’s unlikely that Bradley receives a waiver in that case.

But with a grandmother recently being diagnosed with cancer there is the possibility of a hardship waiver being given for that reason.

There’s also hope that Bradley received a medical redshirt for last season, which would mean three years of eligibility remaining instead of two if combined with a waiver that would allow him to play immediately.

Bradley’s departure drops UConn to two true interior players remaining on their roster: Tyler Olander and Enosch Wolf.
