Arizona coach Sean Miller is a Pennsylvania guy who played point guard at Pitt. He’ll soon have a Pittsburgh point guard of his own in Tucson.
Former Duquesne point guard T.J. McConnell will transfer to Arizona, where he’ll have two years of eligibility remaining after sitting out a season, per transfer rules. McConnell also considered Virginia.
“I just like the way they play and I obviously love their coaching staff,” T.J. McConnell told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “I would love to play for a guy like Sean Miller. He’s one of the best coaches in the NCAA.”
The 6-1 point guard averaged 11.4 points, 5.5 assists and 4.4 rebounds a game for the Dukes last season. Once eligible, he’ll contend for a starting spot in Arizona thanks to his defensive ability and savvy playmaking skills.
Regardless of what happens with Wildcats point Josiah Turner, it seems Miller’s team will be set at the point starting in 2013-14.
