According to CBSSports.com writer Jeff Goodman, TCU athletic director Chris Del Conte may be targeting current LSU head coach Trent Johnson to fill the school’s head coach vacancy.
Former head coach Jim Christian moved on to take the job at Ohio, and Pittsburgh head coach Jamie Dixon (a TCU alum) is a bit too pricey for the program.
Johnson, who prior to arriving in Baton Rouge was a head coach at Nevada and Stanford, has gone 58-59 in four seasons at LSU.
He’s got a pair of Sweet 16 appearances on his resume, leading Nevada that far in 2007 and Stanford in 2008.
LSU returns most of their rotation from a season ago, including guards Anthony Hickey, Andre Stringer and Ralston Turner and forward Johnny O’Bryant, so maybe that would sway Johnson towards staying put.
Then again, having some talented returnees could open the door to a departure as he wouldn’t be leaving a “bare cupboard” for his successor.
