Mike Miller

Eastern Illinois has hired Jay Spoonhour to be its new coach. He’ll be formally introduced during a Monday press conference.

Spoonhour, the son of former Saint Louis and UNLV coach Charlie Spoonhour, was recently the head coach at Moberly Area (Mo.) Community College, but has been at assistant at Saint Louis, UNLV, Valparaiso, Missouri and Texas-San Antonio.

He was the interim UNLV coach in 2004 – taking over for his dad – and was 6-3 in that span.

Eastern Illinois, now in its third season as a D-I hoops school, was 12-17 under Mike Miller last year.

(I still think I deserved more time.)
