After an improbable run through the Sun Belt tournament resulted in an NCAA tournament bid, many felt that Western Kentucky would have a lot to build on in 2012-13.

But even with a number of key contributors from Ray Harper’s team due back, the WKU program took a hit with freshman guard Derrick Gordon deciding to transfer.

According to multiple outlets, the Plainfield, NJ native has decided to transfer with the intention of attending a school closer to home.

Gordon was a Third Team All-Sun Belt selection last season, averaging a team-best 11.8 points and 6.7 rebounds per game.

Recruited by BCS-level programs in high school, Gordon will likely be pursued by a number of schools.
