Michigan lost three players to transfer, following a season where they won a share of the Big Ten title, and it now appears that forward Evan Smotrycz, the most impactful of those three, is ready to move on.
According to Jeff Goodman of CBSSports.com, Smotrycz will have an in-home visit with Maryland’s Mark Turgeon on Friday, Xavier’s Chris Mack on Saturday, and Providence’s Ed Cooley on Sunday.
Along with those three schools, Colorado, Baylor, Clemson, and Kansas State are in the mix.
Smotrycz averaged 7.5 points and 4.8 rebounds per game as a sophomore last season, as Michigan went 24-10, including 13-5 in Big Ten play.
He is a 6-9 forward, originally from Reading, Mass., who scored a season-high 20 points on 7-for-8 shooting in a win over Oakland on December 10.
Multiple outlets reported yesterday that Michigan freshman Trey Burke is expected to leave for the NBA draft, which makes for some troubles for John Beilein and the Wolverines. Beilein has publicly called the reports “premature.”
He has three players signed for the Class of 2012, headlined by Brewster Academy (NH) forward Mitch McGary. Also in the class is Glenn Robinson Jr., son of former NBA forward Glenn Robinson.
