Anthony Davis has been named the AP’s National Player of the Year.

He’s the first player from Kentucky to earn the award and just the second freshman. Kevin Durant won as a freshman in 2007.

Thomas Robinson finished second in the voting while Draymond Green finished in third. The irony there is that Robinson, and not Davis, was a consensus first-team all-american according to the AP voters.

Davis has cleaned up the Player of the Year voting this season. He has won every major award. While much of the year, there was a healthy debate between picking Davis and Robinson, Davis’ improved play down the stretch of the season earned him the hardware.

On the season, Davis averaged 14.2 ppg, 10.0 rpg and 4.6 bpg.
