Report: Rick Pitino falls short of Hall of Fame induction

According to a source of ESPNNewYork.com, Louisville head coach Rick Pitino is not a member of the 2012 Basketball Hall of Fame class.

One of 12 finalists for the honor, with voting results to be released during Final Four weekend, Pitino is one of two coaches to have led three different schools to a Final Four.

His opponent on Saturday night, Kentucky’s John Calipari, has done so as well (trips by UMass in 1996 and Memphis in 2008 have been vacated by the NCAA).

If Louisville and Pitino fans want to look for a sign (should this news be true) they can look to Connecticut head coach Jim Calhoun, who fell short of the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2004.

Inducted in the 2005 class, Calhoun would lead the Huskies to their second national title that weekend.
