Ray Lewis fires up the Stanford locker room

Ray Lewis

FILE - In this Dec. 24, 2011, file photo, Baltimore Ravens inside linebacker Ray Lewis rallies the crowd in the first half of an NFL football game against the Cleveland Browns in Baltimore. Houston Texans’ Arian Foster was in his first season as a starter in 2010 when the Texans hosted the Ravens, and Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis grabbed the running back after a play. Lewis had already become a fan and told Foster: ‘I love the way you play this game.’ Since then the pair have become friends off the field and shared their mutual admiration for each other this week as Houston is scheduled to face Baltimore on Jan. 15, 2012, in the playoffs. There are few athletes in sports who have the ability to fire up teammates like Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis.

Stanford head coach Johnny Dawkins took advantage of this before his team’s Postseason NIT semifinal against Massachusetts, a game the Cardinal won 74-64.

Five years following his retirement Lewis is headed for Canton as one of the greatest linebackers to have ever played professional football. Maybe he can do some motivational speaking as well.

Stanford takes on Minnesota in the Postseason NIT title game on Thursday night at Madison Square Garden.
