Fans turning out in droves to greet their teams is nothing new. They’ll gather at airports and at gyms, always happy to cheer their guys after big wins and occasionally after tough losses.
But this is pretty impressive.
Kansas fans packed Allen Fieldhouse Sunday night, reportedly filling every seat in the arena (capacity 16,300) when Bill Self’s team returned at midnight. Not bad for simply reaching the Final Four. After all, this program won it all in 2008 and was a No. 1 seed the previous two NCAA tournaments. It’s not like KU fans are starved for success.
Yet they still took to the streets to celebrate the win against North Carolina. More victories will bring more of the same, just in greater numbers.
UPDATE: Fans didn’t pack the Fieldhouse, just one side of it.That means there were probably about 6,000 people there to greet the Jayhawks.
