Newspaper front page recap: Ohio, Lehigh, Norfolk State

LehighFrontPage

Unlike Friday night’s upset extravaganza, Sunday wasn’t nearly as kind to the underdogs of the NCAA tournament. Of the three biggest double-digit seeds, only one punched its ticket to the Sweet 16, as Ohio solved South Florida’s pesky defense and got a 62-56 win.

Lehigh led at halftime, but fell to Xavier, 70-58. Norfolk State couldn’t find the same magic that helped them upset Missouri, and loss big to No. 7 Florida, 84-50.

CollegeBasketballTalk recaps the fates of these underdogs in Sunday’s small-town newspapers.

The Athens Messenger was the only newspaper with a celebratory headline, going with the classic shot of a bar full of fans as their photo above the fold:

The Virginian-Pilot used a telling shot of NSU’s Pendarvis Williams, shirt pulled up over his eyes, after falling to Florida.

Finally, we revisit the Lehigh Valley’s Morning Call, which blamed Lehigh’s poor shooting for its loss to Xavier. Creativity in the headline is a nice touch, too.
