There was no secret that fans of the USF Bulls weren’t expecting a whole lot from Stan Heath’s team entering the season. Picked to finish 14th in the Big East, the Bulls played all of their home games off campus as the Sun Dome was being renovated.
But apparently USF “fan” Pat Cotter took it to another level in November, firing up the website firestanheath.com.
With the Bulls making the NCAA tournament Cotter decided that it would be for the best if he took the site down on Sunday. And for what should have been a joyous occasion, Cotter seemed a bit sad about having to give up his cause.
“I took it down,” said Cotter, 44, who did not attend USF but said he went to eight home games this season. “I was waiting for them to let me down, but as soon as they made the tournament, I knew that he’ll be there a long time. No one’s going to fire him now.”
The Bulls, the 12-seed in the Midwest Region, take on 5-seed Temple later tonight in hopes of winning their second game of this year’s tournament.
USF beat California in a First Four match-up on Wednesday night in Dayton, and they’re definitely capable of advancing. Hopefully Cotter finds it in his heart to join the USF fans who are enjoying the team’s success.
“Honestly, I thought it was going to be a horrible year,” Cotter said. “I thought that because he was fired at Arkansas after five years, this was five years at USF, and if he tanks this year, they had to look at it. I’m pretty passionate about this. They’re definitely my team, and I was pretty confident they weren’t going to do well. I was wrong.”
Time to show the Bulls some love, Mr. Cotter. I’m sure they’d appreciate it at this point.
