No. 1 North Carolina breezes by Vermont

North Carolina didn’t have starting forward John Henson and looked shaky to start, but it didn’t matter. The No. 1 seed in the Midwest Region ran away with a 77-58 win Friday against Vermont.

Henson, who averages a double-double, missed because of a wrist injury. Coach Roy Williams says the chances of him playing in the next game are 50/50.

I went to him and I said, ‘John, it just doesn’t look like you’re comfortable,’” Williams said. “And he says, ‘Coach, not really, but I’m right there.’”

Didn’t matter. Tyler Zeller scored 17 points and had 15 rebounds, while freshman forward James Michael McAdoo – getting more playing time without Henson in the lineup – added a career-best 17.

The Tar Heels (30-5) led by double figures before the first half ended and were on cruise control most of the second.

It sets up a game Sunday against Creighton, which’ll provide roughly 351 Harrison Barnes-Doug McDermott stories. Oh joy.
