North Carolina waiting until Friday to decide if Henson will play

If North Carolina is to avoid NCAA tournament infamy on Friday, it may have to do it without the ACC’s defensive player of the year.

Junior forward John Henson, who sat out most of the ACC tournament because of a sprained left wrist, will be a game-time decision. Coach Roy Williams isn’t “convinced” the wrist is strong enough to play. Henson’s ready to just test it Friday before the No. 1 seed in the Midwest faces 16-seed Vermont.

If Thursday’s practice is any indication, Henson won’t be very effective on offense if he does play. He didn’t shot or block any shots with his left hand and favored his right the entire time.

“He did block one shot, it was right-handed, and he took one jump hook right-handed and it fell about three miles short,” Williams told Robbi Pickeral.

The 6-10 forward averages 13.8 points and 10.1 rebounds a game and is one of the nation’s premier shot-blockers, swatting 2.9 a game.
